Chorleywood CIDER CLUB

Once our Orchard was planted some thought went into how we raise enough money to support and maintain it. Apple Juice, jams and chutneys were made and then, starting in 2013, a small group of supporters decided to try their hand at brewing cider. The first two years were anything but successful but some enthusiasts persisted. The Orchard’s “Cider Club” was established and we learnt how to make a tasty brew.

Ten years later and the Cider Club has become a registered cider maker brewing our own “Old Hoody” cider at a local farm. We now make it in enough quantity to fulfil the cider clubs needs and sell it at a small number of local events.

Our craft cider is made exclusively from apples grown in and around Chorleywood. Our volunteers get involved in all stages of the brewing process from equipment set up, apple harvesting through to juicing, fermentation, decanting and of course sampling and selling. In recent years we have raised enough funds to maintain the Orchard and also help other local charities and not for profit organisations with their fund raising.

The club is based at a local farm and new members from the community are always welcome. There are many work parties and social events throughout the year and a couple of parties thrown in too. What’s not to like?
